Dr. Aboueid has an extensive International Clinical and Academic Cardiothoracic Surgery experience and has been practicing Heart Surgery for over 25 years.


Dr. George J. Aboueid is a practicing adult, pediatric, and congenital cardiothoracic surgeon in the New York City area. Born in Lebanon Dr. Aboueid earned his MD degree from the University of Liege, Belgium in 1983 and subsequently performed his training in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery in Paris, France and completed his experience in Cape Town, South Africa.

Dr. Aboueid gained exposure to various cardiac diseases and became well versed in heart transplantation techniques, both orthotopic and heterotopic as first developed in Cape Town under the leadership of Professor Christian Barnard who Dr. Aboueid had the privilege to train under. Later in Paris, Dr. Aboueid became board certified by the French College of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery.

Dr. Aboueid joined the staff at the prestigious Toronto General Hospital in 1991 as a Senior Fellow in Cardiovascular Surgery for 3 years where he participated and helped develop the latest in cardiac surgical techniques. 

Dr. Aboueid was invited to work at the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery in 1994 at Schneider Children’s Hospital- Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York where he was fully involved with all aspects of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgical Team that performed a wide range of pediatric cardiac operations including numerous innovations in neonatal cardiac surgery and postoperative care. In addition Dr. Aboueid became a staff member in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at St. Francis Hospital in New York where Dr. Aboueid has been practicing Heart Surgery for 27 years as the Director of the Cardiac Surgery Fellowship Program while newer techniques of Cardiac Surgery have been developed including Minimally Invasive Heart Valve Surgery and the Trans catheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) programs have become clinically implemented at St. Francis Hospital, New York.

Dr. Aboueid and his wife Nadia originate from large Lebanese families that has family members living in their Lebanon hometown, Qatar, and the United States. With the extensive international cardiac surgical experience Dr. George J. Aboueid has accomplished, he is fluent in French, English, Arabic, Dutch, and Spanish.
